I do my bit for the environment by buying recycled toilet roll and toilet roll. And also bought my kids aqua draw so they do not have to keep buying paper and wasting it

Hi! A really Good and Cheap Tip is to use Malt Vineger instead of Limescale removers that are expensive and have a lot of Chemicals in them that harm the Environment. One cap and about a quarter of a pint added to your kettle. Boil and leave to stand for a couple of hours. Hey presto a clean limescale free kettle. It also prolongs your Kettles life as the element is clean too. I use it to clean my Toilet. I pour a whole bottle of the vinegar down before I go to Bed. When you get up in the morning One limescale, clean toilet. The vinegar dillutes and evaporates. So no harm to the water supply. (I'm a Chemist for a Water Company). Happy Cleaning!

My family and I try everything we can to help to improve the enviroment. I believe that nature goes back to where it was billions over billons of years ago. Why we getting more and more natural catastrophes like floods, thunderstorms and so on? I think because many people did not respect nature and don't think about the fact that they destroy what we need to live and nature takes it back in its own way. But I believe its not to late to help to improve the enviroment even with little steps like, saving energy, not wasting water for nothing, walking to the shop around the corner instead of taking the car, buying an eco kettle to save energy and so much more. There is a great website where you can find a lot of tips how to go green and what items to use to save energy and money at the same time. Here the link www.biggreenshop.co.uk Its worth to have a look. There also great competition where you can win lots of energy saving items.

nesebabe

If you have a vehicle which runs on deisel why not try bio-fuel,made from recycled veggie oil. I use in in my 10year old maverick, runs perfectly, good for the enviroment also better for the engine. See if your vehicle can run on cooking oil.

Clean marks off roasting tins-pour in coca-cola and leave for a few hours, wash off.

I always make sure after unpacking my shopping I leave my carrier bags at the front door to remind me to put them back in my car for the next shopping trip.As they wear out Iv'e been replacing them with the ones you pay for which are sturdier and last longer. Also when I shop online I do not request carrier bags.

rakhi

My family and I always use green label product to help protect the environment.

xxTezaxx

To keep all heat in the house, make sure you shut all doors, which will keep all the draft out, & to make sure your blocking all the drafts, put draft blockers on each door, then you can benefit from the heating that you use. If used properly they can cut your heating bills by about a quarter which in this recession will help save money in a big way for people who are struggling with this credit crunch that most people are feeling.

lady1979

My family and I do our part to help the environment by purchasing and using only products with the green label.

chazzy

I think we should all use buses rather than take the car to the shops or work

I just have one candle on in the evenings when watching television, will save a lot of money on the electric bill. And it is very romantic. lol

mr_biue

Turn off any unnecessary electricity such as pulling all plugs out of sockets before going to bed as this will save about 1/3 of what gets used when appliances are left on stand by.

nicollaahmed321

hi my advice to help the enviroment is: buy an energy efficent car. Car travel is responsible for the majority of climate change impacts from travel. Next time you a buy a new car, look for the fuel efficiency label to choose a more efficient model. This will cut your carbon emissions and save you money on fuel and Vehicle Tax.

emmamcdowall

hello - to stop weeds growing sprinkle salt on and it will stop slugs getting trod on too.

emem4bri

hi! In the summer I get my kids to pick cans up and every bag they fill I give them fifty pence - it recycles for me and gives them pocket money.

kiwimum01

you know they say we run out of water in the summer time and we will get a power cut well why dont they put a electric blanket on the mountains and thaw out the snow and run it back in to the dams if they can do it on bridges they should be able to do it on mountains .

inevawin86

If you're bored and have nothing for the children to do why not go into the garden and pick up some leaves and twigs (which will help clear up the garden) and stick them to paper to make nice pictures or make something from the twigs its fun for you and the children

my advice to help environment is:

  • Use CFC free products. ChloroFluoroCarbons destroy the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful UV rays.
  • Boycott products from companies that produce CFCs.
  • Carpool or walk to reduce carbon dioxide pollution in the air.
  • Do not use ivory or animal furs. Animals are killed to make these!
  • Eat dolphin safe tuna, or don't eat tuna at all.
  • Buy in bulk-this saves not only on packaging that you would eventually have to dispose of, but reduces tremendously the amount of industrial waste generated to make the packaging.
  • Shop for durable, long-lasting products. For example, use a metal razor instead of disposables, or a metal roasting pan instead of a disposable one.
  • Reuse whatever you can, including aluminum pie tins, glassware, plastic cutlery and aluminum foil.
  • Buy products with recycled contents.
  • Precycle--make an effort to buy products with recyclable packaging.
  • Leave the grass clippings on the lawn, and start a backyard composting bin for yard clippings.
  • Instead of throwing away items such as furniture, appliances and clothing, look for a place to donate them

maybe this can help environment

Recycle Your Motor Oil - we use about a billion gallons of motor oil each year, and about 350 million of it ends up in the environment. About 2.1 million tons of oil are deposited up in our rivers and streams every year. Motor Oil can seep down into our ground water supply. One quart contaminates 250,000 gallons of water. If you get your oil changed at a gas station make sure they will recycle your oil. If you change the oil yourself, take it to a gas station or oil-changing outlet which recycles oil. They will take yours, but you will have to pay anywhere from a quarter to a dollar (the cost for having it picked up).

nesebabe

Hi all my name is nesebabe, and i think people should realise what we are doing to the environment even when we go shopping when we buy plastic carries bags, and then throw them in the bin. The bags can take between 400-1,000 years to break down, and like all forms of plastic they do not biodegrade. Instead they photodegrade, breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits that contaminate soil, waterways and oceans, entering the food chain when ingested by animals. Hope you are reading this!!!!! well all we have to do is don't buy plastic bags and most retailers now sell bags for life.

ange06ghetto

I just wanted to say my family and I are glad to be green, we wish everybody would become green like us

Green (finger) tips!
What an excess of fallen autumn leaves there are at the moment! If you're green-fingered and a little bit handy around the garden, why not try shredding those leaves through your mower, piling them into a net toy/laundry stacker in a discreet corner of the garden. Not only will this add an extra touch of colour, you will also have your very own home-made compost and the container will be much kinder to wildlife than wire.

margod1963

I re-use everything, that I possibly can, like the plastic bottles pop comes in. I rinse them out and refill with water or plastic cutlery that I put in my families lunches. Instead of sandwich bags, I use a square container. When I buy a pie from the store, I re-use the tin foil pie plate at Christmas for when I make pies for other people. The boxes cereal comes in, I use at Christmas to put gifts in like, socks, underwear, scarves ect.it makes for a good laugh also when some one opens a gift and they think they received a box of fruit loops or cheerios. I have also used Kleenex boxes for this as well. These are just some of the ways I am trying to help keep our enviorment green.

Send all boxes to schools so the kids can make good use of the ones that aren't recycled.

nesebabe

Hi my name is nesebabe. Here is a tip about being more greener. Why not put your computer on energy savings settings and when not in use switch it off by the mains. you will be surprised how much money you would be saving,And its good for the environment too...more tips to come watch this space.

trena

Hi all, it's trena! I find if you recycle your household rubbish, and turn off any unused applanices, this can help you become more greener. thanks for listening

Ditch your desktop machine for a laptop. Laptop computers are built, by necessity to use less energy than desktop machines. These days, a laptop computer (be it a Mac or a Windows machine) is fast enough and contains enough memory and hard-drive space to serve as your primary machine. Plus, you can work with it in the park when the sun shines, use it at meetings and conferences, and take it home at the end of the day.

Just wanted to share these quotes with you:
"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." - Native American Proverb
"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money." - Cree Indian Proverb

I work at a small mom and pop store in a small town, and most of the customers who come in everyday and buy a six pack or just one thing, have agreed to leave their plastic bag in their car and bring it in over and over to put their purchase in. Thank you for the promo.

lorranskie

Hi, I work for a bookmakers and the amount of paper wasted is unbelievable! It drove me crazy, so I took on the task of speaking to my manager regarding this. Now at least all paper is recycled, its a start at least.

nesebabe

Hi all! My name is nesebabe and I would like to tell people how to become greener. and it won't cost you anything, its free and its good for the environment. You can do simple thinks like take your bottles to the bottle bank and use energy saving light bulbs - British gas have given them to all their customers free!!! Also when you make a cup of tea just boil the kettle for the amount needed good for your pocket and the environment.

sc78121

I changed out all my incandescent bulbs to the fluorescent bulbs and have saved a lot of energy.

fiereater8

When just sitting at your PC playing Bingo, put on a cardy or poncho to stop central heating overkill! You will find yourself removing it as you get warmer, so you saving on central heating. I do it, and as a pensioner I appreciate the saving.

mslittletiger19

There's one thing that drives me mad and that's the amount off packaging supermarkets use. Why do we need a tray for apples etc? Why do cucumbers have skin that's then wrapped and put in another bag? It's such a waste, my family are doing all we can to stay green

bigkeegs

I would recommend encouraging bees by planting insect friendly plants. This year I added willow and butterfly plants in the garden, the larvae are laid on, then eat the willow leaves and go on to become beautiful butterflies which cover the butterfly bush, hence the name, which is also always covered in bees. I felt like Snow White every time I went out the door and into a cloud of butterflies, which was enjoyed by all the local children as well.

margod1963

I just wanted to say that I am glad to see you are helping in the endeavor to make our environment better. I myself am involved with the wilderness committee, and we are trying to help preserve wet lands and save species that are in danger of becoming extinct. I say thumbs up to you guys and thank you.

crazii773

I think more parents should let their children be more involved in recycling of cans, paper, plastic bottles and glass. Mine love to wash cans out and find all old paper they have finished with, and as we don't have a box for recycling bottles we take them to our local supermarket and they really enjoy it.

We all hear the news and stories about going green but there lots of things that are easy and very effective in our fight to save the planet. Make no mistake it is our fight. We all need to educate ourselves, families and children to follow by example. Here are a few of things we can do that will save not only the planet but our pocket too - in the current financial situation that is a big bonus to going green:

  • Kids love drawing so give them the envelopes from your mail every day instead of paper. No kids? Then use them for lists and notes.
  • Don’t throw out empty boxes, stack them inside each other for saving space and use them not just 4 parcels, cover with sticky back plastic, choose your colour to go with the decor and use as waste paper bins. Tape a few of the same size together and use as a (tidy sorter) for craft items etc.
  • Kids also love lucky dips or even turning boxes into cars or boats.
  • Plastic bottles are good for preparing drinks for packed lunches
  • Save boiled water out of the kettle in fridge for cold drinks. No need to buy filters any more as impurities are boiled out of the water.
  • Squeeze bottles are good fun for water play or keeping thickened, used PVA glue and paint clean and tidy.
  • Reuse carriers they're good for wrapping around your hair with conditioner for a really intense treatment but not in front of the kids
  • Use canvas bags for shopping. Think of the 500 years it takes for even eco carriers to biodegrade.
  • Wash up straws and reuse.
  • Keep saucepans covered to boil quicker and add a pinch of salt to the water as this also accelerates boiling.
  • Make bigger portions and freeze for later use.
  • Keep fridges n freezers defrosted and well stocked as this uses less electricity.
  • Check your meter and if you have a lower tariff for night use, then do your washing and drying through the night at a fraction of the day rate.

I hope some of these ideas are useful to you. There are lots of ways to help save the planet these are just a few but forethought and common sense will prove to be the only advice you need. We have to care and teach our children to do the same when we are all doing our bit, things will get better for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.
